| In connection with this: I wanted to ask you what you think of this kind of playing with language. I as a linguist find it absolutely fascinating, but I guess that was predictable. There is a link to a dictionary dealing with this issue: http://speaklolspeak.com/ | |

| I think lol speak is kind of Ebonics mixed with typos. People spelling things out without spell check, and making typos while doing so. I think it's interesting how popular it is. However, I think it's kind of silly to put that much effort into being incorrect. It's harder to read, harder to type. It doesn't bother me like it used to, though. | |

| I don't mind lol speak, depending on the situation it's used in. For icanhascheezburger.com, it's adorable. However, if I just broke out into lol speak at the most random times (like right now), that would be just plain annoying. | |

| No, I'm not a fan of this type of thing. I realize that language is an ever-changing animal, but I hope it hasn't been put on an inalterable course in this direction through the ubiquitousness of computers and texting. Maybe I just have too much "old school" in me, but that's how I feel. | |

Number of posts : 1077 Age : 30 Location : South Carolina, USA Dictionary Definition : Jane: Also known as "Ally," "Allison," and "freshmeat," this female Homo Sapiens specimen has proven herself a strong member of the Literary Cabinet world. One can recognize "Jane" by her taste in, especially older, men, many of them classic fictional characters, as well as her distinct fear of drama class auditions. Like many of the other species in the Literary Cabinet Universe, she is crazy in her own right. Registration date : 2008-12-04

You're not "old school" at all. If you are, then I suppose I am too (at least in regards to this). I agree with Nicholle about lol speak on icanhascheezburger.com. It is adorable. But everywhere else it annoys me to no end. To point out the obvious, it makes people look ridiculously stupid. | |
