In Connecticut, I remember going to school in 8 inches of snow. Here, if 1 cm falls, everybody is outside...you won't believe...MAKING SNOWBALLS  .
Having lived in Connecticut for 6 years and Texas for only 1 and a half, I found this absolutely ridiculous. I was wearing a half-sleeved shirt and a pair of jeans with sneakers. Everybody else was bundled up the same way I would have in the North during a 2 foot snow fall. It everything in me to not burst out laughing...
that reminds me of my cousin who recently came back from Taiwan. She was bundled up like it was winter during the summer while I walked around in shorts and a tshirt in 60-70 degrees weather. Nice... Do you have any idea how manyy strange looks I got for wearing a t-shirt and jeans when there was 1 cm of snow on the ground? It was as if I'd grown a third head, or something. Then, seeing their funny expressions, I explained that I'd lived in New England/Mid-Atlantic all my life minus one and a half years. Then they'd give me the "oh. She's a yankee. That makes sense" kind of look. Although that was last winter. This winter, I'm absolutely FREEZING and snow hasn't even begun to fall yet. People are probably going to give me even stranger looks this year, like "Huh? Last year at this time of year, you wore a t-shirt. Now you are wearing a parka? | |

| It takes the roads to be completely covered in Virginia if we want out of school. When it snows, I usually wear a heavy coat and then take it off when I get inside (wearing long sleeves or a sweatshirt). I'm gonna check the weather.  Just wondering: Are Virginians considered Yankees by Texans, and Southerners by people in Connecticut? Is it a perspective thing or are we always Southerners? We're kind of in the middle and we ARE the first (surviving) English colony, so where do we stand? | |

| I am in Colorado. If you can walk to the school. even if that involves a) shoveling the path as you go, b) sledding, c) skiing, or d) an ice rink and a very good sense of calculated risks, then school is still open.
You pretty well have to be at risk of actually dying on the way there for my school to shut down.
I'm originally from Chicago. What the hell does that make me, anyway? I've never actually understood the definitions of Yankee and Southerner, for example. They seem fluid.
Gah, I rarely get cold. I walk around in jeans and a T-shirt year round. If it's really, really cold I have a winter cape I'll wear outside. Everyone seems surprised by this until I say I'm from Chicago, and then they're like "Oh, that explains it," which baffles me because I swear it's warmer in Chicago than it is here. | |

Anyway, so I'm kind of lost in translation? Rejected by both the North and the South, and even the West, I must be an Easterner? Not a Northerner, not a Southerner.
