Dictionary Definition : Laura: Also known as "Solveig", her internet pseudonym, this female specimen of Homo Sapiens founded the Literary Cabinet world. One can spot "Laura," by the fun she has grading papers and drinking coffee, with triple coffee consumption ever since she quit smoking. Like another species, Homo Sapiens Zarasahanous, she enjoys picking at the extreme Twilight fans. This specimen is particularly fond of procrastinating, as most of the other species of the Literary Cabinet Universe are.

A friend of mine lent me this book a few weeks ago, calling it "a very nice novel". In fact, it is one of the most uplifting novels I've read in a while.

In the beginning, I thought it was one of these typical chicklit novels, with a female protagonist who has just abandoned her cheating boyfriend. However, it is much more. Because of the way in which she left him (the incident involved a hot-melt gun and a condom), she has to take part in a couple of anti-aggression therapy sessions together with a colourful group of people.

During these sessions, we get to know not only her, but each of the members of the group. The protagonist / narrator manages to actually let the reader see every single person without judging any of them. For someone like me, who tends to be a little judgmental, this was challenging and oddly satisfactory at the same time.

In the end, the message is that sometimes, when life really, really sucks, aggression is a natural part of the solution, but it mustn't lead to permanent resentment.

I loved the book, and recommend it to anyone, but to women especially Wink

This specimen is known to work long hours but still makes time to commingle with fellow LC denizens. This being has a peculiar sense of humor and has been observed to shun smilies, although this aversion has been lessening as of late.

A hot-melt gun and a condom...nope, not curious. Sounds too painful. Razz

Thanks for the review, Laura. It seems like something I'd enjoy, but that would be uplifting to someone struggling with pressure and ways of dealing.
Has anyone got an opinion on "If I Stay"? I've heard lauding, but it the summaries I've read seem very cliched and "I'm a world-weary 16 year old filled with angst, etc". If you've had a look at it, please review it.

If it helps: The gun and the condom did not get into direct contact. Very Happy
