| I am thinking "I forgot", or maybe more precisely, "No, I have forgotten his name." Then again, it could be something like "I forget what his name is right now, but give me a moment and I will remember it." I think it depends on whether you are stressing a past tense or present tense usage in the context of what you are writing.
I'm sorry for such a vague answer. Hopefully someone else can clarify this better. | |

| You`ve got a point, Paul. I`m just wondering because here in Canada, people say, "I forget." But back in the Philippines, we say, "I forgot." I just don`t want to embarrass myself if our way is wrong. | |

| I think it depends on the context it's used in. Saying "I forget" would be something constant. If you've met a certain person multiple times, but you always forget his name, it would be "I forget his name."
"I forgot" sounds like a one-time deal. If you met that person once but forgot his name, it would be "I forgot his name."
When people say "I forget" just in casual conversation, it's like saying "I always forget" but dropping the "always."
I hope I'm being clear. | |
